Welcome to the L Streets

April 1, 2010

Hello Neighbors!

The past year has been successful. We hosted two neighborhood events, the Spring Fling and National Night Out. We took part in the first annual neighborhood garage sale, we are helping to improve our neighborhood park located at Lake Highlands Elementary, all vacancies for block captains have been filled, we sponsored a curb painting initiative and we have seen a slight increase in membership. With a number of successful events behind us, we are excited about what 2011 holds for the L Streets.

We plan to sponsor two neighborhood events again, take place in a neighborhood garage sale, and continue to support the playground project. Along with the continued efforts, we want to begin a new initiative, Project Green. We hope to put together a committee to begin coordinating and planning for new tree planting within the community. The beautiful, mature trees within the L Streets are a natural attraction for new residents and appreciated by our long time residents. However, many of the mature trees are reaching the end of their life and will need to be replaced to ensure that the next generation of L Street residents will experience the same joy we have.

The committee will work with local agencies to contract discounted prices or even donations for new trees. And in the fall we will host a concentrated tree planting day. We hope that all residents interested in planting trees will take a weekend to plant, and those unable to plant their own will be assisted by a volunteer group. We believe that this initiative will have great short and long term impacts on our community and are excited about the project.

If you would like to take part in the planning committee, please contact Kyle Salzmann for additional information at vicepresident@lstreets.org.

Thank you for your continued support and we hope you are as excited about the possibilities of Project Green and the continued community growth of 2011 as we are.

Thank you for your continued involvement!
